フランシス・フクヤマ

フランシス・ヨシヒロ・フクヤマ（Francis Yoshihiro Fukuyama, 1952年10月27日 - ）は、アメリカの政治学者、父親が日系二世、母親が日本人の日系アメリカ人。かつてはネオコン政治思想家の代表的人物であったが、現在ではネオコンと距離を置き、批判する言説をいくつか出している。アメリカ在住。日本名は福山。

シカゴ生まれ。コーネル大学に進学し、アラン・ブルームのもとで古典哲学を学ぶ。1981年ハーバード大学で政治学の博士号を取得。

ランド研究所研究員（1979-80年、1983-89年、1995-96年）、国務省政策企画本部スタッフ（1981-82年、1989年）、ジョージ・メーソン大学教授（1996-2000年）を経て、現在ジョンズ・ホプキンス大学高等国際問題研究大学院（SAIS）教授を務める。2007年4月から関西大学政策創造学部客員教授を兼任。

冷戦終結に前後し『ナショナル・インタレスト』に発表した論文「歴史の終わり」（The End of History and the Last Man、後に単行本化） において、民主主義・資本主義が最終的な勝利を収めることで社会制度の発展が終わり、人類発展としての歴史が「終わる」という仮説を提示し、ネオコン思想家として一躍脚光を浴びることとなる。

一方、2003年頃からはネオコンと距離を置き、イラク戦争をめぐってブッシュ政権への批判を行った。特にブッシュ政権がイラクのみならず、中東全体を簡単に民主化できると考えたのは判断ミスだったと論じ、大きな波紋を呼んだ。
